Bake For Family Fun Month takes place each February, one of the most dreary months of the year. It’s a day established by the Home Baking Association to bring families together. Baking is a great activity for parents, grandparents, and children alike. You need ideas of what you can bake that’s relatively healthy for your mom and that’s also appropriate for multiple people to bake together. Companion care at home can even help your senior prepare these baked goods to share with family.
Here are five ideas that are perfect for Bake For Family Fun Month:
Mini Pizzas
Make your own pizza dough or buy it pre-made. You can also use a small pita. You and your mom can slice and chop your favorite pizza toppings. Have plenty of pizza cheese.
Set up a line of topping options where everyone can go down the line with their mini pizza crust and top it however they want. Adults can move them to and from the oven when they’re ready.
Dutch Oven No-Knead Bread
If your mom has a cast iron Dutch oven, they are fantastic for baking crusty loaves of bread. Children can help measure and mix. Your mom can shape the dough on parchment paper. You can move the bread to the dutch oven for baking. Look for recipes online to find some that appear to your mom.
Brownies
Kids love brownies, and there are ways to reduce the amount of sugar for your mom. Instead of sugar, use mashed bananas or sweet potatoes. Almond flour can add flavor and protein. You’ll find many recipes for no-sugar brownies online.
Oatmeal Cookies
Mix a cup of old-fashioned oats with a half cup of natural peanut butter and a mashed banana. Stir in a teaspoon of vanilla and your mom’s favorite chocolate chips. Kids can use a cookie scoop to form the cookies before they go into the oven.
Protein Balls
Protein balls provide a great hands-on activity for kids that don’t require the oven. And, they’re a quick, easy snack you can keep in the refrigerator for your mom.
In a food processor, blend two cups of pitted dates with a half cup of cocoa powder, a half cup of oats, and a cup of walnuts or pecans. If the mixture seems too dry, add in some almond milk.
Kids will shape the balls with their hands and roll them in chopped hemp seeds or flax powder. They can go into a storage container or freezer bag and moved to the refrigerator.
Companion care at home is a good substitute when you’re busy with work, social needs, or children. Your dad doesn’t have to be alone. Hire caregivers to spend the day with him and take a day or two off. Call a companion care at home specialist to learn more.
