Social Work Month is observed every March in the United States. Originally, National Professional Social Work Month was introduced by the National Association of Social Workers in 1963 – over 50 years ago. They aimed to encourage public support and to generate interest in the profession of social work. Today there are over 700,000 social work professionals!
The theme set by the NASW this year is “Empowering Social Workers”, and it highlights the need for better compensation for social workers considering the important work that they do!
This celebration is important to us here at Adult Alternative Home Care because we work alongside social workers in the community to get the seniors the help they need to live lives of quality. Without the help of our social workers, the work we do would be nearly impossible. With the aging populations projected growth rate of 47% by 2050, the American population is older today than it has ever been.
We stand with social workers in their cause to be empowered because we appreciate the work that they do. First hand, we have experienced the commitment and compassion each social worker exhibits with our clients and in the community as a whole.
This year we want to encourage all of our readers to celebrate social workers. You can simply promote the profession with a quick social media post, thank a social worker you know or donate to a social work organization! Let us do all we can to keep the great profession of social work alive!
