Physical wellness is a really broad term which in itself has many facets. To break it down, physical wellness consists of recognizing the need for physical activity, whole foods and sleep. The term also highlights the need to prevent injury and illness, and its management.
From the definition, we can understand how important it is for every individual to set attainable goals for their own physical wellness. That is why, in the United States, Physical Wellness Month is celebrated every April. During this time of the year, everyone is encouraged to observe a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.
This month, we encourage you all to set some wellness goals and stick to them throughout the year.
Goals for Physical Wellness
1. The first step is to understand how your body works. Simply put, the body facilitates all human life processes needed to survive. Appreciate your body for all the marvelous things it does on a daily basis.
2. Make informed decisions about your body and what goes in it. Make it a point to cut out all harmful foods, beverages, drugs, chemicals and additives. This will help you better develop a well-balanced diet.
3. Beware of your sleep habits. Lack of sleep, or of good sleep, results in less productivity and stress.
4. Engage in regular movement to improve strength, flexibility and endurance.
5. Find a hobby! Develop and cultivate leisure activities that can keep your mind engaged. Doing things that you love help improve mood, creativity and reduce stress.
6. Remember, prevention is better than cure. Be intentional about your checkups and make it a point to seek medical care when needed.
The work we do here at Adult Alternative Home Care, requires that all our aides and nurses be of good physical wellness. You can not pour out of an empty cup! Optimal health will sustain you and even help prevent caregiver burnout.
